Personal Letter To My Son's Mentor: On Being A Positive Influence

I really want to thank you for being such a positive influence in my son's life. He talks about you all the time, and I know he sees you as a strong and positive male figure in which he would like to pattern his own life after.

He has never understood why his own father has not been there for him, but I can see that having you in his life is actually helping him to soften some of the pain around his feelings towards his father.

My son has expressed his deep appreciation of you and the fact that you would take time out of your busy life to spend with him. He has told me that time spent with you helps him to feel better about himself and not having his father around doesn't seem to bother him quite as much.

My son has also expressed his future plans of someday reaching out to others in the same way that you have reached out to him. He understands the pain and loneliness association with having a father who is unwilling to be a father, and so this gives him the desire to want to help others like himself whose fathers are not there for them.

As a result of having you in my son's life, I simply don't worry about him as much as I did before. I know that the negative influences are still out there, but they no longer have the same influence over him that they did before he met you.

I only wish that there were more men of high quality, such as yourself, who cared enough to come forward and take our youth under their wings. This would show them that there is hope for them and that they can still create successful lives for themselves in spite of not having their real father there for them.

I prayed that God would send my son a positive male figure, someone who would really care about him and help to steer him in the right direction. You have done all of that and even more.

This personal and private letter from me is simply to say thank you, because you have been that one special person that God has sent. And you have truly raised the quality of my son's life!
